1942 Marx, Highboy Climbing Tractor with Scraper in Original Box

1942 Marx, Highboy Climbing Tractor with Scraper in Original Box

Outstanding clockwork tin and steel litho tractor with driver and original instruction sheet. Comes complete with its original box. Awesome cherry red with incredible engine and body detail. "Diesel 12" model with tin litho driver, rubber treads on steel litho bogeys (wheels), steel litho scraper, and attached cast iron key.

Beautifully detailed, large two sided engine with embossed rounded radiator, lithoed (cross-hatch design) step-in horizontal plates on either side of the driver, embossed hood, two-piece steel litho wheels, 1" rubber treads, chrome plated steel towing hook, and twin chrome plated steel uprights (on either side of driver). Large chrome plated level controls the sealed clockwork motor.

The toy has never been played with. The driver was never inserted into the slotted seat and the scraper never inserted into the slots below the radiator. If they had been, the tabs which hold them in place would have been scraped. There's also no indication on the slots that these parts were inserted.

The red on white printed box shows two repeated illustrations of the tractor from a low front perspective and from the side. Marx produced so many different tractors. I've never seen this model before. The highboys I've previously sold were all flint sparkling. The word "sparkling" was also part of the name. The illustrations, although similar, differ between the sparkling and non-sparkling versions.

Size: 9½" long with 1" wide treads. 4¾" high and 4½" wide.

Sold: May 2005

Price Sold: $ 271
